Philip Hedley has directed theatre productions in many British Regional theatres, in the West End of London, and in Sydney, Vancouver and the Sudan.
He was assistant to Joan Littlewood at the Theatre Royal Stratford East, and later he was chair of that theatre’s board and served for 25years as its Artistic Director and Chief Executive.
He was named Director Emeritus Theatre Royal Stratford East and he was the first individual recipient of the Eclipse Award, established by the Arts Council England and the Theatre Management Association to recognise people who had made advances against institutional racism in British Theatre. He was awarded the CBE in 2004 for services to Drama.
