Our latest alumni update features Miranda Hart, Tanya Franks, Jeremy Ang Jones, Rob Dennett, Jack Ashton, Salim Sai, Molly McGlynn and Amrita Acharia.

Miranda Hart to make West End debut in Annie

Miranda HartALRA alumna Miranda Hart will be making her West End debut this Summer at the Piccadilly Theatre.

She will be playing Miss Hannigan in Nikolai Foster's production of Annie, a classic Broadway musical based on Harold Gray's 1924 comic strip, Little Orphan Annie. The musical is set in 1930s New York and revolves around Annie, an orphan who is living in misery in an orphanage run by Miss Hannigan.

Annie will run from 5th June 2017 to 6th January 2018, with previews showing from 23rd May 2017.

New drama The Good Karma Hospital features Amrita Acharia

Amrita AchariaThe Good Karma Hospital is a new tropical drama series by ITV in which 2009 BA Acting course graduate Amrita Acharia plays the role of Dr Ruby Walker.

So far the show has been a success, "with consolidated audiences of 6.7 million and 26% audience share", according to Radio Times. It has also been confirmed that a second series will air in 2018, with filming beginning later this year in August.

Productions featuring Tanya Franks and Jeremy Ang Jones are among Olivier Awards nominations

Tanya FranksEarlier this month, the nominations for the 2017 Olivier Awards were announced live on Facebook by ALRA graduate Denise Gough and Matt Henry who were among last year's winners.

The Truth, in which alumna Tanya Franks plays Laurence, was nominated as 'Best New Comedy', while Harry Potter and the Cursed Child featuring alumnus Jeremy Ang Jones received a record breaking 11 nominations. The play has been nominated in the following categories:Jeremy Ang headshot

Rob Dennett plays Dr Watson in The Hound of the Baskervilles

Rob Dennett2014 graduate Rob Dennett is currently appearing as Dr Watson in Vienna's English Theatre's production of The Hound of the Baskervilles.

The production is a "fast-paced parody...with irony and a wink", according to the organisers, and will be running until 12th May 2017.

This production is a part of Vienna's English Theatre's School Tours. Find out more on their website.

Jack Ashton features on the cover of Radio Times

Jack AshtonJack Ashton, one of ALRA's 2005 graduates stars as Tom Hereward in the BBC One series, Call the Midwife. The show has won various awards, such as the 2017 National Television Awards where it was crowned 'Best Period Drama'.

Earlier this month, Jack featured on the cover of Radio Times Magazine, which showcases much-loved series, shows and films in Britain.

 

Salim Sai on the 2017 tour of Romeo and Juliet by Omidaze Productions

Salim SaiOmidaze Productions are preparing to kick off the Romeo and Juliet 2017 tour, a co-production with Wales Millennium Centre.

Salim Sai, one of our recent ALRA North graduates who completed the BA Acting course last summer, is part of the cast for this production which combines circus and theatre.

Molly McGlynn joins the cast of Coronation Street

Molly McGlynn2016 graduate of the BA Acting course Molly McGlynn is currently recording eleven episodes of Coronation Street as Rosie's cousin, Leah Buckley - a new character.

The British soap opera has been broadcasted on ITV since 9th December 1960 and over 9,000 episodes have been aired.

At each Friday night performance of any ALRA show there will hold back 5 complimentary tickets for our ALRA graduates.

Please note: ALRA still offer free tickets to all ALRA shows to alumni that are within their first year of graduation.
