The Northern Centre for Voice and Movement

Having been through a period of intense curriculum development re-considering the way in which we train our actors, ALRA has created a network to support the training industry by hosting and curating networking events focusing on actor movement and actor voice.

The Northern Centre for Voice and Movement (NCVM) is a creative network for skills tutors and theatre-makers based in the North of England, Scotland and Ireland, offering continuous professional development workshops taught by highly experienced, international teachers. The NCVM, based at ALRA North, will draw upon these connections to develop a creative network that will benefit practitioners and alumni of Conservatoires across these platforms.

The centre acts as a space to share information, develop best-practice and connect to others working in voice and movement within the arts, with a particular focus on actor training and performance.

Over the next 12 months, ALRA North will focus on creating a board structure that will govern the activity of the Centre and support the development of the network’s vision around CPD, scholarship, research and performance opportunities. As ALRA continues to expand its postgraduate provision we hope to make use of members of the network to facilitate opportunities for formal and informal learning within the voice and movement sector.

The NCVM aims to enhance the teaching of acting in the North of England and beyond through the investment in actor, voice and movement practitioners. NCVM will be dedicated to supporting practitioners from all backgrounds and experiences, widening the exposure of young people to movement and voice activities as well as those with social or financial barriers. We aim to build strong relationships with significant partners throughout the UK and internationally capitalise on ALRA’s reputation for encouraging diversity in the participation of conservatoire training.

NCVM is proud to be working with the full support of the International Network for Voice.
