Michael Chekhov Technique

In this workshop, you begin to explore the exciting world of the Michael Chekhov actor training technique. You will be introduced to the creative nature of the human being and the practical needs of the actor. You will explore a psycho-physical approach to actor training, developing the ability to create different atmospheres, qualities and sensations that will help inspire your performances. This workshop is open to anyone with an interest in developing their acting technique, their teaching, directing or creative practice.

Joerg Andrees

joerg andreesJoerg Andrees is the founder of the Michael Chekhov International Academy (MCIA) where he leads an Intensive Training Programme that results in a Michael Chekhov Technique Teacher Certification. Stage and film director, performer and tutor Joerg Andrees initially trained in his native Germany as a film director. He proceeded to train in the Michael Chekhov Technique in New York.

In 1992 Joerg and a colleague established the first International Michael Chekhov Conference (IMCC) in Berlin and then followed with the 4th IMCC in 1995. Joerg was the co-founder and tutor at the Michael Tschechow Studio Berlin. He also teaches at the Alfred Schnittke Akademie, Hamburg. He is a member of the faculty of MICHA, New York and of Michael Chekhov Europe (MCE).

Joerg’s work has frequently taken him to Ireland to the Michael Chekhov Studio Dublin and to the Gormanston Drama Summer School (Stageworks).

Sarah Purcell

sarah purcellSarah Purcell trained at the Michael Chekhov Studio London and qualified as a teacher of the Michael Chekhov Technique at the Gaiety School of Acting, Dublin. She trained with tutors such as Joerg Andrees, Graham Dixon, Sarah Kane, Ted Pugh, Fern Sloan and Lenard Petit. She is currently teaching at the Michael Chekhov International Academy, Berlin and is looking forward to working with both the Northern Centre for Voice and Movement and ALRA.
