ALRA offers scholarships under a new partner initiative with the John Godber Company
ALRA are pleased to announce a new scholarship opportunity that has developed from a relationship between the John Godber Company and Archbishop Sentamu Academy (a mixed Church of England secondary school and sixth form located in the Preston Road Estate of Kingston upon Hull).
The John Godber Company produced a production of Ocho, performed by the Spotlight Ensemble from Archbishop Sentamu Academy as a community theatre production in the year of City of Culture in 2017. More information is available here.
‘‘I’m delighted that all the hard work done by Jane Thornton on behalf of John Godber Company has culminated in being able to join forces once again; after the graduate experience of Wuthering Heights; with such a prestigious school as ALRA, and to give such an exciting opportunity to so many of the students from Archbishop Sentamu Academy.’’

ALRA’s Principal, Adrian Hall attended a performance and was so impressed by the young cast that they were offered subsidised auditions at ALRA. Now, thanks to a collaboration between ALRA and the John Godber Company, we are delighted to announce that as well as subsidised auditions, scholarships have been offered to some of these talented young performers to help cover their training fees.
“I am excited to have found such an amazing pool of talent in Hull and supporting that talent is central to our beliefs at ALRA. The production of “Ocho” was incredible and I left the theatre genuinely moved and desperate to work with them the following day. My enthusiasm was rewarded by their knowledge and passion and we look forward to welcoming them at ALRA for many years.”
(Adrian Hall, Principal of ALRA)
ALRA are always seeking ways to connect with young talent and offer an extensive outreach programme of auditions, workshops and talks in all areas of the UK and beyond. If you are a teacher and would like to book a visit from a member of the ALRA team, please do get in touch. Details of some of this work can be found here.
Students from Archbishop Sentamu Academy say:
‘‘I never thought that I would be given an opportunity like this, since finding out that I had been spotted by ALRA, my confidence has grown on and off the stage.’’

"I didn't think it was possible for someone like me, in an area like this, to get such an amazing opportunity to go to a private drama school. I'm just hoping to expand on my knowledge and learn more techniques that I haven't covered yet. And ultimately, enjoy this chance that I have been given."
