ALRA Acting Courses | List of entry requirements

  • Three Year Acting BA (Hons) / Three Year Acting Diploma

    Selection is made by audition. 

    In addition you must be:

        • 18 years old at the start of the course, although we positively welcome older students
        • Have 112 UCAS tariff points (NB – exceptional ability and/or considerable life/work experience could be taken into consideration; we would expect you to take an intensive preliminary course)
        • If English is not your first language you must be fluent in English (You may be asked for proof of this).

  • Applied Creative Movement Outline Advanced Diploma

    Selection is made by interview.

    Suitable candidates will be interested in developing clarity in their practice, confidence in their facilitation and experience in developing cohesive project designs, pitches and evaluations.

    The aim of the course is to provide learners with near industry experience that equips them with vocational skills relevant for seeking employment as a movement facilitator in participatory departments of artistic venues, social and educational settings.

    All candidates must either hold a BA in a relevant discipline or have proven professional experience equipping them for the learning experiences on the course. If English is not your first language you must be fluent in English (You may be asked for proof of this). A detailed course break down is available at interview.

  • MA Professional Acting

    Selection is made by audition.

    It is expected that you will have:

    • an undergraduate degree or equivalent, or considerable work/life experience could be taken into consideration; we would ask you to attend an intensive preliminary course.
    • You must be at least 18 years old at the start of the course, although ALRA welcomes older students, especially those who are thinking about a career change.
    • If English is not your first language you must be fluent in English (You may be asked for proof of this).
  • 15 Month Diploma in Acting

    Selection is made by audition.

  • Foundation Acting Course (Part-Time)

    Selection is made by audition. 

        • Applicants are selected on the basis of their aptitude and ability to contribute to and successfully complete the qualification.
        • You must be at least 17 years old at the start of the course, although ALRA welcomes older students, especially those who are thinking about a career change.
        • If English is not your first language you must be fluent in English (You may be asked for proof of this).

    Auditions for the Foundation Acting course take place throughout the year, and more audition dates are confirmed throughout the year.

  • Foundation Acting Course (Full-Time)

    Selection is made by audition. 

    Applicants should be 17 on enrolment (by the end of August just before the course commences). We also welcome the older student, especially those who are thinking about a career change. You don't need any formal qualifications but those seeking to pursue a University place will need a Level 3 qualification and should seek further advice.

    International applicants:

    Entry on this course will not entitle applicants to a student visa. Prospective students must have valid entry rights to study in the UK. ALRA welcomes applications from international candidates whose written and spoken English is of a level appropriate to professional actor training. If English is not your first language you must be fluent in English (You may be asked for proof of this). This will be assessed at audition.

  • Stage Management & Technical Theatre

    Selection is made on the basis of interview.

    Normal entry requirements also include:

    • One A level, a BTEC National Diploma or GNVA in an area Performing Arts or Technical Theatre.
    • Applicants must have at least 100 UCAS points. However, ALRA may also consider applicants with an exceptional level of practical ability or past work experience in the field.
    • You must be at least 18 years old at the start of the course and ALRA welcomes the older student, especially those who are thinking about a career change.
    • If English is not your first language you must be fluent in English (You may be asked for proof of this).
