Joint Audition with Italia Conti and DSL in Newcastle

Following last year’s trial event, ALRA, Drama Studio London and Italia Conti have joined forces again for 2020 to reach the talented young people of Newcastle, Doncaster and Norwich, offering an audition for all three schools in one day for just £30.00! ALRA run numerous regional outreach auditions every year, so we’re pleased to add these three dates to our schedule.

If you would like to audition, you'll need to prepare two monologues; one contemporary and one classical. If you're auditioning for the Italia Conti Musical Theatre course, you'll also need to be ready to sing. You can find lots of tips and hints on the websites of each of the schools and on the FDS website too. ALRA’s audition advice can be found here.

Please note that this is not the standard ALRA audition format so if you’re planning on attending a main ALRA audition you’ll need to follow the guidelines here.

The auditions are at Newcastle College on Saturday 29th February, Doncaster Little Theatre on Sunday 1st March and at the Theatre Royal Norwich on Saturday 4th April.

  • ‘We know that it's expensive to audition for drama school. There's quite a bit of funding available once you secure a place but just getting to the audition can be too much of a financial strain for some. The lowest fee just for an audition is around £35.00 and then there’s the additional travel costs and you’ll possibly need overnight accommodation too.

This means that the very first step towards professional actor training – the audition – can be the biggest barrier of all, and many talented performers never get the chance to fulfil their potential. This event in Newcastle is an attempt to break down that barrier.’

  • ‘Italia Conti is delighted to be joining forces with ALRA and Drama Studio London to offer this amazing opportunity to audition for three FDS schools on a single day for just £30. We are determined to make it as easy as possible for young people to have the opportunity to train at a leading performing arts conservatoire and follow in the steps of our famous alumni.

We will be offering auditions for our Acting and MT courses on the day in Newcastle and, if an auditionee wishes to be considered for both, they can do that too as part of the £30 joint audition. We hope that this will be the first of many such days and look forward to discovering some exciting new talent.
