Sensing Laban workshop

The workshop will explore a somatic approach to learning the dynamics of your own body. Participants will also be introduced to the the vocabulary of movement devised by Rudolf Laban including principles of Space, Harmony and Efforts.

About the workshop

The aim is to develop enhanced expressivity and specificity in the acting body through the exploration of movement observation, analysis and embodiment…and to play!

This work is applicable to actors, movers and dancers although no movement experience is necessary.

(10am to 4pm both days including breaks.)

Course Leader

Sue Mythen (Head of Movement at The Lir Academy)

Sue MythenSue worked as an actor and physical performer for many years prior to completing an MA Movement for Actors at Central School of Speech & Drama, London. Since then she has worked as a freelance Movement Director and teacher.

Recent movement direction work Movement Direction of The White Devil at Shakespeare's Globe and at The Abbey Theatre; Oedipus, The Shadow of a Gunman, Hedda Gabler, Twelfth Night, The Plough & the Stars, Heartbreak House, 16 Possible Glimpses, The House, The Rivals, Pygmalion and Major Barbara. Sue’s work for Anu Productions includes Sunder, Pals and Angel Meadow.

Other recent work includes Displaced at The Montreal Fringe Festival, Elektra for Canadian Opera Company, Semele for RIAM, Dead Man Walking for Opera Ireland at the Gaiety Theatre, Richard II at Smock Alley and Coraline for Puca Puppets and Devotion, Last Call and Jumping on my Shadow for TEAM Theatre Co.

Her work in the UK includes Not I, Timon of Athens, Electra, A Devilish Exercise and Chelsea Valentine and choreography for Northanger Abbey (ITV/Diplomat films). Sue is Head of Movement at The Lir Academy and at teaches at Trinity College Dublin and she has also taught at RADA.

Fees

£150.00 - 2 day workshop

If booking more than one Workshop in the Summer 2017 series ALRA will issue a refund of £75 for each additional booking. (Therefore you can attend all three workshops for £300 or two for £225. Refunds will be applied after booking.)

At each Friday night performance of any ALRA show there will hold back 5 complimentary tickets for our ALRA graduates.

Please note: ALRA still offer free tickets to all ALRA shows to alumni that are within their first year of graduation.
